The Inland Northwest Land Conservancy is joining a worldwide effort to collect species data for the plants and wildlife that live on this Earth with us! The Spokane County City Nature Challenge enables citizens to collect data for their region with an organized group (INLC) and compare findings across the globe! In 2022, over 1.7 million observations were made by citizen scientists across the world and we are joining the effort this year!
Each day, trained group leaders will take small groups of volunteers to a different set of public areas to gather data about the flora and fauna of our county. Check each day of the event if there’s a specific place you’d like to go! We’ll be visiting at least a dozen different places during the event!
Volunteers will use iNaturalist to gather data. Group leaders will be able to orient volunteers to the free program, if needed, and we’ll send out information about how to use it before we gather in the field together. This platform allows us to collect all of our species information in one place and rank against other participating cities!
Understanding our environment and its diversity is a key part of protecting it! Thank you for your help with that important work!
