August 11 – A Grounding Waikiki Wander

August 11, 2024 8:30 am 30

Join hike docent Alana Livingston for a Waikiki Wander on Sunday, August 11th, starting at 8:30 am.

Inspired by the Nordic practice of Friluftsliv, this hike will take place barefoot! Also referred to as “grounding” or “earthing“, barefoot walking is known to heighten all of your senses, bringing you closer to your experience and being present. This natural foot massage has many benefits including

  • a more natural gait
  • improves circulation
  • stimulates pressure points
  • improves balance
  • and reduces blood pressure just to name a few.

This will be Alana’s first barefoot walk and she is excited to try it with you! Barefoot walking is not required; however, wearing shoes will change the speed of your hike, so just be aware. Another common practice in Friluftsliv is “fika,” which is a small break to enjoy coffee, small cakes, or other light snacks, and we will absolutely do this as well. Alana will bring some things to share, but feel free to do the same or just enjoy what is available ♡

Participants should come with an open mind, shoes or flip flops (to get to and from your car or put back on should you want to), a towel to wipe your feet, a bag to carry your items. If you have a small first aid kit that would be great as well, although Alana will have some things too.

As always, dress for the weather and bring binoculars if you would like. Sooo excited to share this adventure with you!

When: Sunday, August 11th, starting at 8:30am
