INLC’s Waikiki Springs Nature Preserve area is a rich place. It’s got riparian habitat, open wet meadows, mixed upland forest, granitic rock outcrops, and deeply varied topography.

We want to understand the Waikiki Springs landscape better, especially since our active and careful management will result in changes to that landscape, like new, sustainable trails and native species plantings. We want to see how the landscape reacts to those changes so we can adjust or boost those activities accordingly.

One of the best ways to understand the landscape is to get out on it, looking at vegetation, listening for birds, gauging tree growth, analyzing waterbodies, and taking soil moisture samples. And that’s what we’ll be doing when we do our spring Bio Blitz at Waikiki Springs!

No experience needed and all ages are welcome to join. We’ll teach you everything you need to know and provide all necessary measurement tools.

All you need to bring with you are snacks or a lunch, plenty of water, good hiking shoes, appropriate layers, a face covering, and your observation skills. And if you’ve got a favorite field guide, that can’t hurt either!
