Oct. 17th – Bio Blitz at Rimrock to Riverside (9am-1pm)

October 17, 2021 9:00 am 15

INLC’s Rimrock to Riverside property lies along the northern boundary of Palisades City Park. It’s very diverse in vegetation, contains several unique wetlands and ponds, and is very geologically unique. The Conservancy strives to not only protect lands like these, but also to enhance the habitats and forest health of the landscape, and learn more about the land to inform our land protection efforts.

A new, bi-annual program at Inland Northwest Land Conservancy is the Bio Blitz program. This is a great program for budding citizen scientists. We’ll visit pre-determined plots on the property and complete the same set of measurements so we can compare data year over year. The kind of data we’ll gather includes soil invertebrate number and type, tree size and health measurements, water resource evaluation, and basic vegetation survey.

This information will tell us a variety of things, like, is the soil becoming drier over time? Is the vegetation becoming more or less diverse? How quickly are the trees growing and do they appear healthy year over year?

THIS EVENT IS FOR ALL AGES, BACKGROUNDS, AND ABILITIES. Please don’t feel you need to be an expert in any of the measurements listed above to register. INLC staff and other trained group leaders will have all the resources you need to complete these measurements successfully.

We’ll meet at the Rimrock to Riverside parking area at 9am and walk to the survey sites. We’ll wrap up and be back at the parking area by 1pm at the latest. Please bring snacks or a lunch and plenty of water, along with a face covering, appropriate layers, and sturdy hiking shoes/boots. INLC will provide all necessary tools and gloves.
