Events

The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.

City Nature Challenge Hike at Waikiki Springs!

Join us on the land for some citizen science! The City Nature Challenge is a great way to get started in citizen science, and contribute to a world-wide challenge to collect field data! No experience needed. Just bring your phone, loaded up with iNaturalist, and hike docent Joe Spitz will guide you through the process of collecting field data!

Data will be collected between April 24th-27th, then corrected and submitted the following week. A full report of our findings will be distributed the following week! Data is often used by researchers at various agencies and universities and inform local conservation efforts!

You can expect the trail to be easy to moderate hiking conditions and will last up to 3 hours. Joe will guide you to areas of Waikiki Springs, so you have ample opportunity to gather some great data and experience the preserve.

What to Bring:

  • your phone, pre-loaded up with iNaturalist
  • Sturdy footwear

  • Water

  • Dress in layers, temperatures can vary.

We look forward to seeing you on the trail!
