December 6 – Antoine Peak Summit hike

December 6, 2025 10:00 am

Date & Time: Saturday, December 6 | 10 a.m.
Location: We’ll meet at the West Trailhead parking area (porta-potty available here) and hike the Antoine Summit Trail.
Duration: Approximately 3 hours | 4 miles

Join volunteer hike docent, Rick Hosmer, who will lead a hike at Antoine Peak on Saturday, December 6th starting at 10 am. Rick has been hiking and enjoying the outdoors since his childhood exploring the central Cascade Range with his dad and grandfather. Backpacking trips on his path to becoming an Eagle Scout, led to an interest in mountaineering and rock climbing. He has ascended most of the Cascade volcanoes and scrambled to the tops of many peaks throughout the Pacific Northwest.

This trail provides a good, non-technical hike with a mix of uphills and descents with numerous viewpoints along forested slopes. It’s a loop hike and provides a great introduction to the 1,300 acre Antoine Peak Conservation Area. If the skies are clear, we’ll gain views of Liberty Lake, Mica Peak, Mt. Spokane, the Dishman Hills, and even Steptoe Butte, nearly 60 miles away.

On the hike, we will chat about INLC’s involvement in protecting this land, regional wildlife, ice age floods, the Spokane-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer, Antoine Plante, and Native cultural history of the area.

This is a great hike at a very special area on the north rim of the Spokane Valley.

We’ll meet at the West Trailhead parking area Map It (porta-potty available here) and hike the Antoine Summit Trail. In early December, the trail could be snowy, so pack/wear gaiters, microspikes, and trekking poles, depending on conditions and your experience. Bring a warm hat and windproof shell, along with plenty of water and snacks.

Happy hiking!
