Events

The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.

May 10 – Cougar Bay Nature Preserve Discovery Hike

Join volunteer docent Mark Merhab for a beautiful hike at the Cougar Bay Nature Preserve along the John C. Pointner Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary trail. The trail follows the shore of Cougar Bay and offers sites and sounds of many waterfowl and aquatic wildlife. The trail continues through Fir, Tamarack, and Pine forested slopes, up to a beautiful Viewing Platform overlooking Cougar Bay and the city of Coeur d’Alene.

This 2.5 mile hike has an elevation gain of approximately 400 feet as you walk to the viewing platform. It should take around 2 hours to complete, depending on the group’s pace. There is some heavy natural vegetation along the trail, so insect repellent and sunscreen should be considered when preparing for the hike.

This hike is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, in a beautiful natural habitat on the NW side of Lake Coeur d’Alene, and have open discussions about the importance of conserving lands. You’ll also get the chance to meet like-minded community members and learn more about the important work Inland Northwest Land Conservancy is undertaking!
