The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.
Explore the Mica Peak Conservation Area Saturday, March 21 on a guided hike led by hike docents Rick Hosmer and Joe Spitz. The Mica Peak Conservation Area is a special property encompassing a wide ridge dividing Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake from the northern Palouse. With an interesting human history, varied plants and trees, a range of native wildlife, and views of the Valley and southern terminus of the Selkirk mountain range, this hike offers a wild escape close to urban environments.
The hike is a perfect introduction to nearly 5,400 acres of publicly accessible land reaching from the Belmont Road Trailhead to Liberty Lake County Park, containing many miles of trails for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
This easy to moderate hike (about 500-feet of elevation gain) is scheduled for March, so be prepared for winterish weather (if we ever get any this season!), with appropriate footwear, trekking poles, layered clothing, a wind/rain jacket, and warm hat and gloves, even if the day seems springlike. These items, along with snacks and a quart of water, should be carried in a daypack, along with a pair of binoculars and a camera if you’d like to expand your views and record your memories.
