The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.
Join the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy and Spokane County Water Resources Specialist Ian Barnes for a relaxed and engaging morning at Saltese Wetlands, featuring an educational presentation followed by a casual guided meander through the conservation area.
This event is designed to be welcoming and accessible for a wide range of participants. The morning will include an optional gentle 1–2 mile walk through the northern portion of Saltese Flats with plenty of opportunities to pause, observe, ask questions, and enjoy the landscape together.
The morning presentation will provide a broad overview of Spokane County’s Water Resources Division, the history and acquisition of the Saltese Flats property, and current projects and goals connected to Saltese Flats and the Doris Morrison Learning Center.
Following the presentation, participants are invited to join a guided site tour and meander through the wetlands. Along the way, we may visit a vegetation enclosure established in Fall 2025, observe a water control structure, and spend some time birdwatching. Binoculars and bird guides will be available to borrow during the walk.
