Date & Time: Saturday, November 15 | 10 a.m.
Location: Starting point at Glen Tana barns (directions and details will be provided)
Duration: Approximately 3 hours | 4 miles
Join Volunteer Hike Docent Joe Spitz for a special guided hike that connects two extraordinary places—Glen Tana and the Waikiki Nature Preserve.
While many have explored Waikiki’s public trails, Glen Tana remains closed to the public, making this guided outing a rare opportunity to experience both landscapes together. This route highlights the natural connection between the two properties, winding through ponderosa pine forests, past unique rock formations with fascinating geological stories, and along the scenic Little Spokane River.
This version of the hike will extend beyond Glen Tana to reach the bridge spanning the Little Spokane River—a section not included on most Glen Tana hikes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of rugged canyon walls, the flowing river, and diverse habitats that support local wildlife.
You’ll also learn about Glen Tana’s deep history, from its significance to the Spokane Tribe of Indians to its later chapters as a dairy farm and dog kennel, and how this landscape continues to connect people, land, and legacy.
What to Bring:
