The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.

Explore Glen Tana on a guided birding hike led by hike docent and birder Brenda Day, in partnership with the Spokane Audubon Society. This outing on Thursday, February 26 kicks off a series of monthly birding hikes that will follow the changing bird populations from winter through summer. Future walks will also be on Thursdays; keep an eye on our event page for upcoming dates. Depending on the season, the route may vary slightly to explore different habitats across the property.
Participants will experience the winter-to-spring transition as we explore Glen Tana’s diverse landscapes, from the tranquil Little Spokane River corridor to rugged canyons and ponderosa pine forests. These varied habitats offer excellent opportunities to observe both resident birds and early seasonal arrivals.
Hike distance will range from 2 to 6 miles, depending on group interest and where bird activity leads us. The pace will be relaxed and observation-focused, with frequent stops for viewing, listening, and learning. Expect a total duration of approximately 2–3 hours.
Led by Brenda and birding experts from the Spokane Audubon Society, each hike offers field tips, identification guidance, and a chance to observe seasonal changes in birds and wildlife. Join a single walk or the full series—each month brings new discoveries for both experienced birders and curious nature enthusiasts.
