The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.

Waikiki Nature Preserve Hike with Naturalist Jack Nisbet

Join us for a special guided hike through the beautiful Waikiki Nature Preserve in north Spokane!

Volunteer hike docent Chris Moore will be joined by renowned naturalist and author Jack Nisbet, an expert in native plants, local history, and tribal heritage. Together, they’ll bring this unique landscape to life as we explore one of Spokane’s true natural gems.

What to Expect:

  • A scenic 3–3.5 mile hike (approximately 3 hours)
  • Gentle elevation gain (no more than 400 feet)
  • Easy to moderate difficulty
  • Engaging stops along the way to learn about:
    • Native ecology
    • Geological history
    • Tribal and regional history

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy hiking footwear
  • Plenty of drinking water
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended)

Parking Info:

  • Limited parking (4 spaces) available at the trailhead with a Discover Pass. Click here for directions:  Map It
  • Street parking is available—please be respectful of nearby residents:
    • Do not block driveways
    • Observe all posted “No Parking” signs
    • Park further down the road to allow access for emergency vehicles

  • There are no restroom facilities on this trail
