The Conservancy believes in the power of connecting people to nature. Our events are designed to give participants a unique view of lands we protect and an understanding of why they matter. We also work to instill the value of natural places in our community to raise up a human support structure for the earth here in the Inland Northwest.
Waikiki Wetland Restoration Prep – Fence Out, Wetland In – Day Two!
Thursday, June 25, 2026
9:00 am
Waikiki Nature Preserve- meeting place just across the bridge
Join INLC and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Thursday June 25 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM for day two of pulling down an old chain-link fence and clearing the way for wetland restoration. We’ll remove posts, cut and roll the fencing, and set some aside to reuse for a temporary trail closure. The cleared site becomes a deposit area for gravel hauled out of the restoration zone – so this is hands-on work that literally opens the path for the machines to create new wetland areas safely.
What to expect:
This project will be taking place off-trail, over uneven terrain, and over a mile from the trailhead. Volunteers should be able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs independently.
What will be provided:
Power and hand tools to support removal, vehicles and trailers to haul fencing away, gloves and hard hats, extra drinking water.
What to bring:
Sturdy boots or shoes, weather appropriate layers, a lunch, plenty of drinking water.
Good to know:
No established restroom on site! Only trees! Plan accordingly!
Dress for the weather and expect a bit of dirt—this is a hands-on project!
