Natural History / Geology Outing with Jack Nisbet and Steve Box

Join USGS geologist Steve Box and writer/naturalist Jack Nisbet for a passenger van tour of Inland NW Land Conservancy easements above Cougar Bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Highlights will include a recently-documented outcrop of some of our continent’s most ancient rocks, Ice Age Flood features, and the trails of early human visitors.
Participants will be ferried together in a tour bus from our meeting place in the Spokane Valley to Carder Farm where we will meet with landowner Wes Hanson. We will then walk for about two hours on trails of easy to moderate difficulty. We will then proceed to the Heine easement where we will have lunch at the home of Joyce Randall. After lunch interested guests will be shuttled by ATV or Jeep to a viewpoint on the property for a panoramic view of an Ice Age flood route that later became the intertribal “Skeetshoo Road” utilized by fur agent David Thompson in 1811.
Light lunch and beverages will be provided. We will go out rain or shine.
