Spend the Summer with us!

July 12, 2024

Summer at the conservancy is a season of discovery and adventure. This year, we’re excited to offer a series of engaging events, including guided hikes through scenic trails and an enlightening birding presentation by local experts. Join us to explore the natural beauty and diverse wildlife of the Inland Northwest!

July 20 – Cougar Bay Nature Preserve Hike

Join Mark Merhab on our first docent-led hike in Idaho! This trail passes through a sloped forest of Ponderosa Pine, Tamarack, and Douglas fir trees, with wetlands that offer a chance to see numerous waterfowl. At the northern portion of the trail, there is a great viewing platform of Cougar Bay and Lake Coeur d’Alene!

July 25 – Birds and Brews with Brenda Day

Discover the beauty of birds through the lens of Brenda Day’s stunning photography. She will showcase her latest work and share captivating stories from her birding adventures. Enjoy a selection of local brews and light snacks as you mingle with fellow birding enthusiasts. Finish off the evening with a hike at Slatese!

July 31 – An Evening at Waikiki

If you find yourself stuck behind a desk all day, this evening hike is the perfect way to get in your daily movement and wind down from the work day. Evening hikes also allow you to take advantage of cooler temperatures and less intense sun rays!

August 8 – Forest Bathing at Glen Tana

Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese practice that involves immersing oneself in the forest’s sights, sounds and smells to promote physical and mental well-being. This meditative experience encourages you to slow down, connect with the natural world, and engage all your senses in the tranquil beauty of the forest.

August 10 – A Morning at Slavin Conservation Area

This hike is perfect for getting some morning movement in and beating the heat! Spending time in nature has been proven to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall mental well-being. A morning hike can help clear your mind and set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Start the day right with Team INLC!

August 11 – A Grounding Waikiki Wander

Inspired by the Nordic practice of Friluftsliv, this hike will take place barefoot! Also referred to as “grounding” or “earthing“, barefoot walking is known to heighten all of your senses, bringing you closer to your experience and being present. This natural foot massage has many benefits, including:

  • a more natural gait
  • improves circulation
  • stimulates pressure points
  • improves balance
  • and reduces blood pressure!
