Veterans Restoring Tubbs Hill

June 30, 2020

On Thursday, June 25, Inland Northwest Land Conservancy teamed up with the Friends of Tubbs Hill and the City of Coeur d’Alene Parks Department staff to do restoration and repair on the east side of Tubbs Hill near the 11th Street Marina parking area. The day started at 7:30 AM with the Parks Department staff using chainsaws to fell dead trees, used later in the day by volunteers to close off dangerous and unwanted social trails. Volunteers worked in teams to move large rocks and logs into place and anchor them to dissuade inappropriate trail use.

One of the volunteers remarked that she was impressed by what the group could accomplish together. As a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident, she had never seen anyone apply this much effort to improve the trails at Tubbs Hill. She found it inspiring and wants to continue the work. On behalf of INLC, I (Todd) was happy to be able to contribute to these high usage trails and look forward to hosting future work parties at Tubbs Hill, continuing the multi-year effort to repair and re-route trails for long-term sustainability.
