There is still time to join one of the Conservancy’s Fall stewardship events! Fall in love with local lands and waters this October and give back to the places you care about most.
Saturday, October 5th – Trail Cleanup at Palisades Park with Friends of Palisades
Spend a morning with Friends of Palisades and Inland Northwest Land Conservancy, helping keep Palisades Park spiffy! Garbage bags, snacks, and beverages are provided.
We still need 30 volunteers – make yourself one of them!
Saturday, October 12th – “ReForest Spokane Day” at Slavin Conservation Area
Reforest Spokane Day is an annual effort to restore Spokane’s natural beauty and biodiversity by planting native trees and shrubs. Volunteers will help improve wildlife habitats, combat climate change, and protect the environment for future generations. This community tree-planting event is a collaboration between The Lands Council, Inland Northwest Land Conservancy, Spokane County Parks, US Fish & Wildlife Service, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Sunday, October 13th– Verbrugge Conservation Land Native Planting
The Little Spokane River, a critical waterbody in our region, winds through the Verbrugge conservation easement property in Pend Oreille County. Gary Verbrugge, a private landowner, donated a permanent conservation easement on his property in 2007 to protect the healthy forests, wildlife habitat, and Little Spokane River corridor forever. The land is in private ownership and not open to the public, but has substantial conservation value in the region and protects ecosystems we all benefit from.
To further protect these values, Gary has been planting trees along the Little Spokane River for many years to create a shaded buffer along the river to keep the water cool, clean, and clear – ideal for native fish and water quality – and in recent years, partnering with the Kalispel Tribe Natural Resources Department to do so! For this project, we’ll supplement Gary’s efforts and plant about 150 native trees and shrubs in the Little Spokane River floodplain. This will be a great opportunity to learn about and explore lands that are not open to the public – a great way to see someplace new and beautiful!
Weekday stewardship opportunities – Waikiki Wednesdays!
You Conservancy will host Bi-Weekly Waikiki Wednesdays at our Waikiki Springs Nature Preserve every other Wednesday from 9:00 am-2:00 pm.
