Upcoming Events in October
October 3, 2025
October 3, 2025
You’re invited to join us for these upcoming events in October, where we’ll roll up our sleeves to care for our lands and waters – from the trails of Palisades Park to Glen Tana, Hangman Creek, Slavin Conservation area, and beyond. Together, we’ll clean up well-loved trails, restore wetlands, and plant hundreds of native species to strengthen habitat for wildlife and improve the health of our waterways.
Special thanks to Thomas Hammer Coffee and The Rocket Bakery for keeping our volunteers fueled at our planting events with coffee and treats as we get our hands in the dirt and make a difference for the places we love.
PALISADES TRAIL CLEAN-UP
Saturday, October 11
Join us for the bi-annual clean-up of the beloved trails at Palisades City Park! Together with the Friends of Palisades, we’ll spend the morning caring for these well-loved trails, keeping them safe, clean, and enjoyable for all who visit. Your effort directly supports the health of this cherished park and the community that enjoys it year-round. We’ll provide all the tools (and snacks!). You just bring your energy and love for the trails. A little effort goes a long way — and you’ll head home knowing you made a real difference for the park we all treasure. REGISTER
GLEN TANA THURSDAYS
October 16 | October 30
Join us for a project stewarding Glen Tana. This project will focus on removing interior fencing around Lockhart Field and will involve removing barbed wire, cattle panel fencing, and T-posts. We’ll organize those materials to be removed from the site and get them recycled. Register for October 16 | October 30
NATIVE SPECIES PLANTING
Saturday, October 18
We’re excited to welcome you to our Glen Tana property along the Little Spokane River for a very special planting event. Together, we’ll start to transform an old cattle grazing field near the river into a vibrant corridor of native plants that will restore wildlife habitat, strengthen ecosystem function, and support the health of the river. Every plant that goes into the ground is part of a lasting legacy for the land and water. REGISTER
WAIKIKI SPRINGS HIKE
Sunday, October 19
Discover what connects Waikiki Springs to Manito Park, Whitworth University, and the Nine Mile Falls Dam. This 3.5-mile guided hike will take you through diverse habitats—from Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir forests to the banks of the Little Spokane River. Along the way, learn how these environments shape the area’s unique plant and animal life. REGISTER
NATIVE SPECIES PLANTING AT SLAVIN CONSERVATION AREA
Saturday, October 25
Help wetlands thrive! Join us with our partners from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Spokane County Parks, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service as we plant another wave of native trees and shrubs. Last year, volunteers helped us add over 1,200 plants to this beautiful wetland habitat, and we’re aiming to match (or beat!) that number this year. Every set of hands makes a difference in restoring this critical ecosystem. REGISTER
GUIDED HIKE AT GLEN TANA WITH NATURALIST JACK NISBET & HIKE DOCENT JOE SPITZ
Saturday, October 25
Join Volunteer Hike Docent Joe Spitz and local naturalist & award-winning author Jack Nisbet for a special guided hike through the beautiful and historic landscape of Glen Tana. Jack Nisbet is known for his engaging books on the natural and cultural history of the Inland Northwest. This is a rare opportunity to walk the land with someone who brings deep insight into its stories—past and present. REGISTER
NATIVE SPECIES PLANTING ALONG HANGMAN CREEK
Friday, October 31
We’re teaming up with the Spokane Conservation District to restore a stretch of Hangman Creek — and we’d love your help! By planting native species along the streambanks, volunteers will be supporting large woody debris installations that slow the flow of water, improve water quality, and create healthier habitat for wildlife. Every plant in the ground brings us one step closer to a thriving creek corridor. REGISTER
