National Trails Day: Stewardship in Action
Saturday, June 6

Join INLC and the Northern Rockies Trail Project, along with a coalition of outdoor recreation groups, trail users, and community organizations, for a day dedicated to collaborative stewardship in North Idaho. This event is about more than trail work—It’s about bringing together trail users, outdoor enthusiasts, and community organizations to work side-by-side and demonstrate what shared stewardship looks like in action.

Paths Toward Belonging: Philosophy Hike IV
Sunday, June 7

Join EWU philosophy professor and volunteer hike docent Chris Kirby for the final hike in our spring Paths of Belonging series at Palisades Rimrock. Since 2008, Chris has taught classes in Asian philosophies and environmental ethics at EWU. This concluding walk brings the series full circle, exploring belonging and the conservation aesthetic—how care for place emerges through attention, relationship, and appreciation.

Slavin Conservation Area Birding Hike
Monday, June 8

Join volunteer hike docent Liz Melville and birding expert Alan McCoy from Spokane Audubon Society for a birding hike around the James T. Slavin Conservation Area. For Liz, Slavin holds a special place in her heart. Over the years, she has explored its trails on many hikes and discovered unforgettable moments watching wildlife — from Cedar Waxwings and Tree Swallows to her favorite, Northern Flickers.

Waikiki Nature Preserve Hike with Naturalist Jack Nisbet
Sunday, June 14

You are invited to a special guided hike through the beautiful Waikiki Nature Preserve in north Spokane. Volunteer hike docent Chris Moore will be joined by renowned naturalist and author Jack Nisbet, an expert in native plants, local history, and tribal heritage. Together, they’ll bring this unique landscape to life as we explore one of Spokane’s true natural gems.

Seasonal Bird Walks at the Glen Tana INLC Property
Thursday, June 25

Explore Glen Tana on a guided birding walk led by hike docent and birder Brenda Day, in partnership with the Spokane Audubon Society. This outing continues a series of monthly birding walks that follows the changing bird populations from winter through summer.

Morning Meander at Saltese Wetlands
Wednesday, July 1, 2026

Join us in collaboration with Regional Water Resources Specialist Ian Barnes for a relaxed and engaging morning at Saltese Wetlands, featuring an educational presentation followed by a casual guided meander through the conservation area. This event is designed to be welcoming and accessible for a wide range of participants.
